Step 4 - Populating Rosters

Last Updated: Mar 06, 2012 08:02AM EST
There are two basic ways to add players to your teams.  The manual method and the bulk import method.  If you have a lot of players to add use the bulk import method.  If you only need to add a few players use the manual method.

Adding a Player to a Team:  Manual Method

  1. From the Admin area click the menu item League > Players
  2. Click the Add Player / Staff Button in the top right corner
  3. Fill in the form
  4. Click the Submit Player Button

Your player will be added to the roster of the team you specified.  The form will come back ready for the next player and will be set to add to the same team.  You can add coaches and other staff to the team.  If your players are not already in the system, you may want to try to Bulk Import Members.

To Bulk Import Members:

Get your names into this format:   First Name, Last Name, Email;

Example Data
Eric, Bana, ebana@hotmail.com;
Liam, Neeson;
Belinda, Carlisle, singer@yahoo.com;
Tom, Selleck, mustachio@gmail.com;
Wesley, Snipes;

Separate first name, last name, and email with commas and end each line with a semi-colon.

  1. From the Admin area click the menu item People > Members
  2. Click the Bulk Add Members Button in the top right corner
  3. Paste your data into the text box
  4. Click the Submit Data Button
Your members will be created and it will make adding players the manual way less time consuming as you can just select the member rather than adding the member each time.  It also gives you the opportunity to add an email address.

Player Email Addresses

Having email addresses for your players is terrific because you can use the Emailer to email to groups of players all at once, invite players to games to get an idea of if they are available game to game, and invite players to join an upcoming season to test interest and numbers for an upcoming season.

Player Form Fields:

Image: The player photo can be set here.

Member: Select the member or click Add New Member to quickly add a new member that will be a player on the team.

Season:  Select the season this player will play in.

Team:  Select the team he / she belongs to

Position:  Select a position the player will perform especially if the player is a goalie.  If the member is a coach or other team staff select that here.

Jersey Number:  Set the light color of the team.  Used to set the colors of the team page.

Captaincy:  You can set the player as a Captain or Assistant Captain.

Player Status:  Regular players of a team should be set to Active.  If a player is only playing in a one-off circumstance set the status as substitute.  If a player leaves a team for other reasons select the closes status available.

Adding a Player to a Team:  Bulk Import Method

This is the quickest and easiest method to setting up team rosters when you have a lot of players to get into the system.  If your members are not already in the system and you want to import email addresses as well, do the Bulk Member Upload first as described above and then do the Bulk Player Upload as described here.
  1. From the Admin area click the menu item League > Players
  2. Click the Bulk Import Players / Staff Button in the top right corner
  3. Get your data set up in a comma-separated format and end each line with a semi-colon as described below.

Code Format

First Name, Last Name, Team Code, Jersey Number, Position Code, Captaincy;

Example Code

Eric, Bana, 245;
Liam, Neeson, 245, 99, G, C;
Belinda, Carlisle, 246, 6;
Tom, Selleck, 245;
Wesley, Snipes, 246, 3, LD;
Belinda, Carlisle, 246, , ,A;

Use the codes provided to fill in the correct information.  Be sure to include First Name, Last Name, Team Code as these are manadatory.  All players import as a status of Active so if you import players with different statuses you will have to change these manually after import.

Once you have your data ready

  1. Paste your data into the text box
  2. Click the Submit Data Button

All your roster have been generated! Go on to Step 5 - Schedule Games!
